Growing a business in the caring industries is tricky
Over many years we have worked with many businesses which are looking to expand, and a significant number are in the caring industries. By caring industries, I mean areas like this:
· Allied health such as physio, mental health, surgeries, dental services
· Areas such as delivering massage therapy
· Fitness industry be it individual suppliers or those providing the service through gyms and the like
· Beauty services
· Art teaching individually or through studios
This list is long
What it involves is people with a personality profile not suited to business delivering a service through a business set up. Inevitably there is a conflict.
Those of us attracted to teaching, nursing, art, hairdressing etc. are great at these jobs and we have the empathy and ability to build connections with our clients – all absolutely essential for doing these jobs.
But the trouble is business tasks such as marketing, sales, and cold calling, managing the money, managing staff and customers in difficult situations are all very difficult for us.
So, trying to expand a business by putting people like us in charge of an expanding number of outlets just does not work.
But there are ways around it.
